Poet. Wrote on western themes. Father a founder of Dakota Wesleyan University (Mitchell, S.D.). Contracted tuberculosis while student there (1902) and moved to Arizona where worked as ranch hand. Westerners Foundation begun (1958) under auspices of College of the Pacific (Stockton, Calif.) and founding Corral of Westerners fraternal history organization (Chicago, Ill.) Philip A. Danielson of Chicago, Robert E. Burns, Leland D. Case and Reginald R. Stuart of COP were instrumental in establishing Foundation. Collection displays letterheads and forms used in 19th century by Wells, Fargo & Company. Wells Fargo, founded 1852, was formed chiefly to transport gold dust and other valuables between California mining frontier and eastern seaboard.
